Short abstract: 

Sustainable development (SD) of the Danube River Basin (DRB) seemed like yet another buzzword when in 2012 I was offered to apply for the first DIAnet School on “Interdisciplinary methods for the sustainable development of the Danube Region”. Being a lecturer in Quality Management allows me to stay open-minded and to embrace such brave initiatives as these initiated by Danube:Future (www.danubefuture.eu). What made the announcement even more appealing was that it promoted interdisciplinary research as a method for approaching sustainable development issues. So I applied for the International School.
