The 2025 Annual Meeting of the Danube Rectors' Conference took place at the University of Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Tuzla on 12–14 November 2025.
Universities and AI: Shaping Tomorrow
In a time marked by the rapid development of artificial intelligence, universities are faced with significant challenges – but also great opportunities. The topic of this year’s DRC Conference has been selected based on the strong conviction that universities in the Danube Region must assume a proactive leadership role in the responsible, ethical, and innovative application of AI in education and research. Only in this way can we simultaneously harness the many benefits AI offers, while safeguarding the academic community and broader society from its potential negative consequences.
Challenges facing universities include the need to adapt curricula in accordance with AI-driven transformations, preserve academic integrity, foster the development of digital and AI competencies among faculty and students, and carefully assess the ethical and societal implications of AI. At the same time, AI presents enormous potential for personalized education, enhanced research output, stronger connections with the labor market, and greater regional academic cooperation.
We are confident that, through collective dialogue and collaboration, we can establish a strategic framework that will position the universities of the Danube Region at the forefront of this transformation.
